CoQ10 plus NADH for chronic fatigue syndrome

Chronic fatigue syndrome may be helped by a simple nutritional intervention, combined Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) plus Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH), according to a new study.

An 8-week randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trial (RCT) evaluated the effects of CoQ10 (100 mg twice daily) plus NADH (10 mg twice daily) on fatigue and biochemical parameters associated with oxidative stress, bioenergetics status and mitochondrial dysfunction in chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) patients.

At the end of the study the CoQ10 plus NADH treatment resulted in a significant improvement in fatigue compared to placebo. The nutritional treatment also improved measures of mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress (NAD+/NADH, CoQ10, ATP and citrate synthase were significantly higher, and lipoperoxides were significantly lower).

“These observations lead to the hypothesis that the oral CoQ10 plus NADH supplementation could confer potential therapeutic benefits on fatigue and biochemical parameters in CFS,” concluded the study investigators.
